In 1984-1987 I was a test subject for NASA’s space life sciences program. In 1988 when I graduated from the Texas Chiropractic College and was enrolled in a dual master’s degree program for Fitness and Human Performance as well as an MBA in Health Care Administration, I was contacted by William Thornton, M.D., NASA Astronaut, Space Life Sciences Researcher to come to his office. He handed me stacks of research papers to read from his years of research on astronautics. He mentored me in my early years in Space Life Sciences. Several other astronauts have also encouraged my participation in NASA’s space life sciences including Story Musgrave, M.D., NASA Astronaut (Former) to perform low back pain research on astronauts. He was chief of the astronaut corps office and asked me to develop a questionnaire on low back pain and space travel. He assured me all of the astronauts would participate in this research and he wanted me to join them during his tenure at NASA JSC. Many other global opportunities have presented themselves to me along my career. But, more locally, I was a paid consultant with the corporate headquarters of Sisters of Charity and Memorial Health Care in the early 1990’s to integrate allopathic care with alternative care in the City of Houston.

Additionally, 20 years ago, I served as the education committee chair for the Houston Area Health Care Coalition (HAHCC), representing preventive care services with large employers in Houston including Boeing, United Space Alliance and Lockheed Martin. I was subsequently asked to be the Educational Resources Coordinator for the Texas Business Group on Health (TBGH) representing six million Texans and finally the Resources Coordinator for Healthy Communities for the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) representing thirty million Americans. At that time, I co-founded the Texas Alliance for Worksite Wellness where I was responsible for coordinating government (Texas Department of Health), American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, March of Dimes and other National not-for-profit organizations to standardize wellness programs for large employers throughout the state of Texas. Six other southern states were looking at this new organization to become the new standards for implementing and operating wellness programs combining government, corporate and national not for profit organizations. I also became the coordinator for six southern states to implement the national healthy cities and healthy communities’ initiative. As a result, I brought together all the top leaders locally in the City of Houston including the mayor’s office, key government and non-government leaders to kick of the Houston Healthy Communities Initiative in the mid to late 1990’s. A major part of my career has been working nationally, state, regionally, city and most recently locally to standardize preventive care programming involving government and other key stakeholders. Since 2013 I have been providing chiropractic and wellness programming services at NASA JSC and Sheppard AFB to a government contractor Pacific Architects and Engineers (PAE).
